I was pleased to see "'Trouble in Paradise' report recommends protecting Florida’s resources," published in the Sept. 20 Ledger. I urge every Florida resident — private citizens, officeholders and those running for public office — to read this report before the midterm general election in November.
Protecting the natural resources of our state is vitally important to our quality of life, our health and our economy. The report, published by a coalition of environmental groups, details steps in six critical areas of concern that should be taken both by state and local governments and by individuals.
With Florida adding approximately 1,000 new residents daily, it is critical that we begin immediately to implement strategies to control growth, conserve our water supply, protect natural and agricultural areas, and plan for the effects of climate change.
The report can be found on the troubleinparadiseflorida.org website.
