USS Little Rock Blue held a change of command ceremony on Friday November 30. Cmdr. Todd D Peters turned over command of the USS Little Rock Blue to Cmdr. Lenard Mitchell.
The ceremony concluded an eventful and highly successful 18-month command tour for Peters. He led the crew through acceptance and commissioning of USS Little Rock (LCS – 9) and her maiden voyage through the Saint Lawrence Seaway.
He and his crew completed Combat Systems Ship Qualification Trials (CSSQT) launching Little Rock’s first Rolling Airframe Missile. Peters finished his tour by successfully completing Final Contractor Trials and conducting crew turnover with the sister crew, Little Rock Gold.
“The past 18 months have been an amazing experience; in some ways it seems as if the time has flown by, but it also seems like this tour has been my entire life,” said Peters. “ Peters’ next tour will be at Fleet Modernization at the Pentagon.
Mitchell is a prior Operations Specialist before graduating from Southern University in Baton Rouge and commissioning in 2000. He completed Sea Tours aboard USS Deyo (DD 989) and Tomahawk Strike Officer and Combat Systems Officer, and aboard USS Gettysburg as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer. His most recent sea tour, he served as the Executive Officer for USS Little Rock Blue alongside Peters.
“Commissioning the ship last year was an exciting time, but now we have to prepare to take our ship on her maiden deployment; to be warfighters always ready to answer the call!” said Mitchell. He ended his remarks saying, “Always professional; always mission ready. Let’s win!”
USS Little Rock Blue is scheduled to return on hull to USS Little Rock in summer 2019 and deploy in August 2019.
