The USS Roosevelt (DDG-80) held a change of command ceremony on Nov. 12 when Cmdr. Amy Jones was relieved by Cmdr. Matthew Molmer as commanding officer.

Jones has served as the Roosevelt’s commanding officer for 14 months, and has served aboard honorably for a total of 32 months aboard the ship. Her previous duty stations include the USS Jarrett (FFG 33), Destroyer Squadron 21, the Pentagon at OPNAV N96, Surface Warfare Division of the CNO’s Staff, Afghanistan, and PERS-41. It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to Commander Jones.

Molmer has served as the executive officer of USS Roosevelt for 14 months, and is now stepping into the role of commanding officer. Molmer served 11 years as a prior enlisted sailor, and has 27 years overall in the Navy. Molmer will be leading the Roosevelt to Rota, Spain in 2020 after the completion of the Basic, Advanced, and Integrated Training Phases. Molmer has been previously deployed to 5th and 6th Fleets in support of anti-piracy operations, and again with 6th Fleet in Italy where he served as the Fleet Management Officer in the Current Operations Directorate.
