Magical Christmas is a Mayport holiday tradition that people look forward to every year.  Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) transforms Sea Otter Pavilion into a winter wonderland fit for Florida. The festivities run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on December 6, complete with hot cocoa and cookies for all.

“Weekends in December fill up quickly, which is why Magical Christmas is traditionally on the evening of the first Thursday in December,” explained Sarah Barthelemy, Special Events Coordinator. “Plus, the evening event allows participants to fully enjoy the full effects of the Christmas lights.”

The entire event is free and creates the perfect opportunity to get into the holiday spirit. Children can visit with Santa, which gives parents the chance to take photos with their personal cameras. MWR will showcase performances by the Navy Band Southeast, and children from the Child and Youth Program will sing Christmas carols. Kids can also write letters to Santa, which will be sent to the North Pole and returned before Christmas.

“There are a lot of photo opportunities,” explained Barthelemy, “so make sure to bring your camera.”

Magical Christmas is just another example of how MWR Mayport provides programs and activities that increase the quality of life for the Sailor and their families.
