Naval Station Mayport's Navy Exchange (NEX) facilities have been awarded the Bingham Award in the $36-$85 million sales category for fiscal year 2015, an honor they've been runner-up for 3 out of the past 4 fiscal years.

Each year The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) presents the Bingham Award to the best-of-the-best Navy Exchanges in nine sales categories for overall financial results and customer service. 

 "I am very elated for the more than 200 associates who give their best effort day in and day out providing excellent customer service to our military community," said William Hockenbury, general manager of the Mayport NEX facilities.

"Our success can definitely be attributed to the hard work and dedication given by the them on a daily basis."

NEXCOM established the Bingham Award Program in 1979 to recognize excellence in customer service, operations and management at NEX activities.

The award is named after the late Capt. W.H. Bingham, Supply Corps, U.S. Navy Reserve. Bingham was the chief executive officer of the R.H. Macy's company, and was appointed by the Secretary of the Navy in 1946 to lead an advisory board for establishment of what is now NEXCOM.

"Winners of the Bingham Award exemplify the true spirit, dedication and professionalism of all our associates and management teams," said retired Rear Adm. Robert J. Bianchi, NEXCOM's chief executive officer.

"The Bingham Award recognizes our stores for work they do throughout the year in support of our customers. By design, this award is presented to both the NEX and the local Navy command to recognize their partnership and dedication in supporting the quality of life of our military members and their families."

Hockenbury further attributes the award to the NEX employees' continued ability to provide service members and their families with a pleasant shopping experience.

 "We actually did nothing different this year than what we have done in the past," he said.  "We strive for excellence in providing great customer service."

NAVSTA Mayport's NEX will be holding a presentation ceremony for the award on Sept. 13.
