Staff members were from six different states, including Virginia, Georgia, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina and Maryland.
The visit to the Carney was a part of a week-long orientation to the Navy. The members arrived on board and were greeted by a group of junior officers as well as Cmdr. Pat Shea, Carney commanding officer. Shea lead the group on a tour of the ship group toured the ship and the staff workers were introduced to the basic elements of the ship.
As a part of the tour the staffers were able to meet Sailors from their home states. This offered the staffers a great opportunity to not only meet Carney Sailors, but to meet Sailors from their home states.
This also gave the Sailors a chance to talk about their concerns with people who had direct influence on lawmakers in matters concerning the Navy.
''She was actually from the same town I was,'' said OS2 Glen Kettering about his staffer. ''I spoke with her about what I did in the Navy and what life was like on board. She said to give her office a call if I needed anything.''
