New Skipper McLane Takes Helm Of Carney

McLane comes to Carney after last serving in OPNAV N5. During this tour, he volunteered for a year with the U.S. Army in Iraq, where he served as Head Operations Planner on the headquarters staff of the 354th Civil Affairs Brigade.
His other sea tours include: Communications Officer and later Ordnance Officer in USS Lewis B. Puller (FFG 23), Navigator in USS Vicksburg (CG 69), Operations Officer in USS Moosebrugger (DD 980), N3 on the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron 14, and executive officer in USS Simpson (FFG 56).
Additionally, McLane's other assignments include U.S. Naval Academy as Executive Assistant to the Character Development Officer and as an instructor in Advanced Navigation, Basic Seamanship, and German. He graduated with highest distinction from the College of Naval Command and Staff and completed the Naval Operational Planner Course at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. He is a 1990 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He majored in History and holds a minor in German.
Kuffel leaves Carney for his next duty assignment as Battalion Officer at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.
The guest speaker for the Change of Command Ceremony was Capt. John Kersh, Commander Destroyer Squadron 24. Carney is nearing the end of a 15-week maintenance availability and preparing for its regularly scheduled 2009 deployment with the Harry S. Truman Strike Group.
