|
||
Upon graduation from the grueling four-week-long course held at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Stutsman was awarded as the top performer from amongst the seventeen course graduates.
Some of the requirements from SAR Swimmer School include various lifesaving scenarios both in and out of the water. As a part of the final exam, participants must complete a 500-meter swim with full equipment, immediately followed by a 400-meter buddy tow.
Stutsman completed his final exam in well under the required time of 24 minutes, with a final time of 22 minutes and 31 seconds.
Additionally, all SAR Swimmers must be qualified by the American Red Cross in both Cardiopulmonary Resutation (CPR) and use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Gettysburg will utilize Stutsman as a SAR watchstander during small boat operations underway. He is now a key player in the case of a man overboard, responsible for physically recovering the man in the water. Stutsman's superior physical and academic accomplishments in SAR Swimmer School have made him a tremendous asset to Gettysburg.
