Mayport Celebrates Freedom

Hundreds of Naval Station Mayport Sailors, families and guests came out June 28 to celebrate freedom with MWR's Freedom Fest at the Sea Otter Pavilion.

This event replaced the base's 4th of July celebration.

The base swimming pool opened at 11 a.m. with free admission for all authorized guests and pool games for all ages.

All other activities began at 4 p.m. at Sea Otter Pavilion. Freedom Fest 2008 featured children's and adult games, inflatables, clowns and a stilt walker, a mechanical bull, a caricaturist.

Activities were stopped momentarily when a huge rainstorm flooded the entertainment area. It eventually stopped and the fun started back up again.

Live entertainment was provided by The Ron Perry Connection followed by the band, Those Guys.

A spectacular, choreographed fireworks show light up the sky at 9:30 p.m.
