McInerney Color Guard Takes Fenway By Storm

Cmdr. Patrick T. Holub, Commanding Officer of the guided missile frigate USS McInerney (FFG 8), Information Systems Technician Chief Bobby L. Alston and the McInerney color guard render a salute during the singing of the National Anthem at Fenway Park prior to a Red Sox - Yankees game. The color guard consists of Fire Controlman 3rd Class Sean C. West, Sonar Technician 2nd Class Aaron G. Sanders, Torpedoman's Mate 3rd Class Kennan L. Kruse and Seaman David Jordan.

During a port visit to Boston, Mass., in support of the Dorchester Day festivities, USS McInerney (FFG 8) fielded three Color Guard teams for the surrounding events, including stepping onto the Fenway Park field.

The Color Guard diligently rehearsed and practiced their steps enroute so they would be able to put their best foot forward in Boston. The most visible detail had the honor of doing the detail for the June 1 Yankees vs Red Sox game at Fenway Park.

"It was an awesome experience to actually be on the Field at Fenway. I never thought I would make it on the field, ever. The sold out crowd was great and supportive. This was an incredible opportunity and I'm so glad I was able to be a part of it," remarked Torpedoman's Mate 3rd Class Kennon Kruse.

Details also made appearances at the dedication ceremony of newly constructed Hero's Square, which was built to commemorate a local soldier killed in action in Iraq last year, and the Dorchester Day parade where numerous groups, including McInerney, marched.
