USS The Sullivans Runners-Up For NEY Award
By Ensign Kari Weniger, USS The Sullivans Public Affairs
The Supply Department/Food Service Operation of USS The Sullivans has been selected as the Runner's Up for the 2010 Captain Edward F. Ney Memorial Award for Food Service Excellence. This prestigious award honors those ships that represent an impeccable standard in the general mess. With this award, The Sullivans has demonstrated a commitment to food service operational excellence, indicating sustained superior performance and dedication to improving quality of life afloat.
"We all were pretty excited for the inspection," Culinary Specialist Seamen Adam Klink said. "We finally saw the reward of our hard work. I'm really proud of our crew."
It was a complete team effort to succeed. All departments contributed to the achievement.
"The Food Service Attendant's (FSA) played a big role," Culinary Specialist (Surface Warfare/Air Warfare) Rodney Smith said. "They really came in and helped. It was a total team effort with the FSA's and the engineers keeping the equipment up and running."
The Sullivans was one of four finalists in contention for the prestigious award in the Medium Afloat Category.
"Being runner's up allowed us to prove we're one of the best," said Seaman Klink. "But next year, we'll be back for No. 1!"
