Capt. Herbert Hadley relieved Capt. Glenn Zeiders as commanding officer of Afloat Training Group Mayport on Feb. 12.

Hadley, a native of Raceland, Louisiana, entered the Navy as a direct high school accession into the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) Program.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and a Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

Hadley served his Division officer tour in USS McInerney (FFG 40), where he served as Auxiliaries and Electrical officer and Main Propulsion Assistant. His department head tours were in USS Doyle (FFG 39) as Chief Engineer and USS Ramage (DDG 61) as the commissioning Chief Engineer.

Hadley was the executive officer of USS The Sullivans (DDG 68), and he served as commanding officer in USS Halyburton (FFG 40) from September 2003 to May 2005. During his tour, Halyburton earned the 2004 Battle Efficiency Award. Most recently, Hadley served as Operations officer at Carrier Strike Group 12, making two deployments onboard USS Enterprise.

Ashore, Hadley completed assignments as an instructor at Naval ROTC Unit, Florida A&M University and a tour on the Joint Staff, J-7 as the CJCS Exercise Program Manager.

Zeiders will assume command of Destroyer Squadron 14 in late March.
