The Coast Guard Cutter Hammer took back bragging rights after “pouding” this year’s competition at the 2018 Spring Sports Challenge May 1-3.

Hammer pulled out the win with just a 25 point lead over LCS Little Rock Blue and Sioux City Blue, respectively.

This year’s challenge started off with a splash with both NS Mayport and LCSRON Two’s teams ending up in Lake Wonderwood rather than crossing the finish in their canoes during the CO/CMC canoe challenge. USCG Station Mayport showed off their small boat prowess with a win, followed by a win by CNSS 14 in the Experienced Canoe race.

Fourth Fleet made its way onto the score board with a win at 3v3 basketball played on the new basketball courts next to the bowling alley.

Sioux City Blue also made the scoreboard with their first win at Pickleball. LCSRON Two made a strike with Bowling and LCS Billings Blue finished up the day with a win at Over-the-Line softball.

Day two of the Sports Challenge started off with the canonball competition dominated by LCS Billings Blue’s splash factor. Little Rock Blue showed they know how to kick home a win at the kickball competition. LCSRON Two’s team showed off their backyard gaming skills with a win at cornhole.

Day three started off with a win for Little Rock Blue in beach volleyball. Hammer brought home their first win with at balloon launch and boat wars.

LCSRON Two flexed their muscles at tug-o-war. Little Rock Blue ended the competition with a tiebreaker event against Sioux City Blue for second place. This year’s MVP award was presented to Chief Operations Specialist Jarrod Knight of Sioux City Blue for his participation and team spirit. The next Sports Challenge will be held Oct. 2-4.
