More than 400 military students and their families turned out for Naval Station Mayport's annual Back to School Splash sponsored by MWR and the School Liaison Office on Aug. 13.
The students stuffed bags full of books and pencils, paper and other school supplies before enjoying an evening of free swim at the outdoor pool, along with free food.
"It's a great way to help children transition into a new school year, especially if they are new to the area," said Sharon Kasica, NS Mayport's School Liaison officer. "Events like the Splash also connect parents to local resources that support their children and education."
The Back to School Splash gives organizations like Communities In Schools the opportunity to give back to the men, women and children who make incredible sacrifices for our country, said Roy Fallon, Military Liaison at Communities In Schools.
"Our team spent the summer collecting school supplies for these families as a small token of our immense appreciation," Fallon said. "We look forward to distributing the items at the Back-to-School Splash every year and having the opportunity to thank these families for their sacrifices in person."
