NS Mayport Is World's First TsunamiReady Naval Facility

National Weather Service officials have recognized Naval Station Mayport near Jacksonville, Fla. as the nation's first naval site to achieve TsunamiReady® status. Located at the mouth of the St. Johns River and the Atlantic Ocean, Mayport is the third largest naval facility in the continental United States. The station has also earned the distinction of being recognized as one of seven military installations to be designated as a StormReady® site. [ More ]

Base Main Gate Change Coming
The Naval Station Mayport Main Gate will be closed to inbound and outbound traffic, due to construction, from 12 a.m. Dec. 15 to 4 a.m. on Jan. 8.

Public Hearings Set For Mesa Verde Shock Trials
Public hearings on the draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) Full Ship Shock Trials will be held this month in Florida and Virginia to give the public an opportunity to comment on the DEIS. The Navy will hold a public hearing at Fletcher High School Auditorium in Neptune Beach, Fla., on Nov. 29 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mayport Children Benefit From NEX Giving Tree Program
The Giving Tree is a special military community outreach program designed to extend holiday warmth to special children in need throughout the Mayport military community. NEX patrons are asked to enhance the Christmas holiday and makes dreams come true for special children. All Navy Exchange customers are encouraged to participate in this worthwhile project.
