New Look For Mayport Commissary

More than two years after construction began at the Mayport commissary, shoppers are treated to a welcome sight - a newly-designed store. Nov. 7 marked the grand re-opening of the commissary after a $12.5 million ''addition alteration project,'' in which an existing building is altered, and in the case of Mayport's commissary, expanded, said John Blythe Sr., store director. HSL-40 Conducts Airborne Change Of Command
In a unique change of command ceremony, Cmdr. Douglas A. Malin relieved Capt. (sel) Joseph A. Bauknecht as commanding officer of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 40, while airborne on Nov. 2 at Naval Station Mayport.

Kennedy Sailors Visit 'Kennedy' Recruits
Crew members from the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) met with Navy recruits from Recruit Training Command, (RTC) Great Lakes Oct. 27. Kennedy's Executive Officer Capt. Brad Robinson led seven Sailors from the Mayport, Fla.-based ship to share experiences from the fleet with recruits prior to their graduation.

Trio of Jags Run MCM
A team from HSL-60 Jaguars joined more than 21,000 runners to brave the cool temperatures and windy conditions to compete in the 31st Annual 2006 Marine Corps Marathon held in Washington, D.C. Oct. 29.

Sea Cadets Soar At Jax Air Show
Despite the high winds and nippy temperature, hundreds of people showed up Oct. 28 for the second day of the 2006 Air show. Among them was the US Naval Sea Cadets, Mayport Division Unit under the direction of their commanding officer, Lt. Sue Lounsberry. The cadets were the guests of the Association of Naval Aviation, who had one of the many chalets that lined the front of the air strip. However, the day was far from relaxing for the cadets.
