Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday and that means you can sleep in one more hour. But it also has another meaning. Fire departments throughout the United States use the start and end of Daylight Savings to remind people to change the batteries in their smoke alarms. Your smoke alarm has the power to save your life. Or does it? If you haven't tested your smoke alarm lately, it may not be working. And that's a risk you can't afford to take. [ More ]


Gettysburg Without Cash
There is no cash on board USS Gettysburg. USS Gettysburg officially goes live with Navy Cash on Oct. 31. Thanks to Navy Cash, managing personal finances will be smooth sailing with an implementation of a cashless society on board the ship. The new system enables Sailors to buy virtually anything they need on or off the ship without carrying cash, as well as access checking and saving accounts at ATMs around the world.

Mayport Fire Team Trains JFK In Confined Space
Shipboard life can be strenuous and stressful, but nothing is more terrifying than being in a life or death situation with no way of escape. Confined spaces have limited openings for entry and egress, and can have limited or improper ventilation. Sometimes Sailors must work in confined spaces to repair or inspect boilers, piping systems or propulsion machinery.

Mayport Celebrates Diversity
NS Mayport 2006 Multicultural Extravaganza was held on Oct. 19 at Oasis Galley. Representation from various cultures were on display, along with cultural performances and entertainment. Guest speaker for the event was Fleet and Family Support Center Director Hector Luis Sepulveda Jorge.

JFK Admin Department Focus On Healthy Living
The Admin Department ACFL is PS2 Andrew Hunt. He has been their department PT leader for six months. His physical training regime is fully supported by the OIC in this division, Lt. Cmdr. Vincent Webster. Webster not only affords the division the time to PT, he can be found leading from the front, sweating it out with the 70 other active duty members in his division.
