Navy Awards Contract For Ford Aircraft Carrier

The Navy awarded a $5.1 billion contract to Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding Newport News Sept. 10 for the detail design and construction of the future USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the lead ship in the Navy's newest class of aircraft carrier. [ More ]


Mayport FD Gives Tips to Prevent Home Fires
Naval Station Mayport Fire and Emergency Services Department will be observing Fire Prevention Week during the week of 5-11 October 2008. Fire Prevention Week commem-orates one of the worst fires in the American History - the 1871 Great Chicago Fire - where 250 people died and over 17,000 buildings were destroyed with an estimated property damage of $169 Million Dollars. In 1922, President Harding proclaimed "National Fire Prevention Week" and since that time the National Fire Protection Association has been the official sponsor of fire prevention week activities throughout the nation. Kearsarge, Fourth Fleet Teams With Disaster Relief Agencies To Bring Aid To Hard-hit Haiti
USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) has teamed with several disaster relief agencies, such as U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the World Food Program (WFP), among others, to bring humanitarian assistance and disaster relief remote areas hit hardest by tropical storms and hurricanes over the past month.

Mayport Holds DC Olympics
USS Carney (DDG 64) took home the trophy as the winner of the first Damage Control (DC) Olympics competition held aboard Naval Station Mayport since 2003.

Naval Academy Class of '66 Honors Hue City
On Sept. 11, the United States Naval Academy class of 1966 joined the crew of the USS Hue City (CG66) in recognizing two Sailors whose exemplary performance of duty epitomizes the Navy's core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. The event was held in conjunction with a picnic honoring the services of the Class of 66.
