Vicksburg Is Back!

USS Vicksburg (CG 69) returned to Naval Station Mayport Sunday after a high-tempo, five-month surge deployment to the Horn of Africa (HOA) and the Arabian Gulf. Vicksburg surged as a demonstration of the Navy's Fleet Response Plan in support of the Global War on Terror. [ More ]

Mayport Ships Are 'Warriors'
Three ships led by Commander, Destroyer Squadron (COMDESRON) 24 left the east coast June 5-6 to participate with naval forces from the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Australia, France and Spain in Neptune Warrior, a coalition course in the North Atlantic.

Crew Commissions: USS Farragut
The crew of USS Farragut (DDG 99) commissioned its new Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer during a ceremony Saturday at NS Mayport. Attending the traditional Navy ceremony was Secretary of the Navy Donald C. Winter, Florida Senator Mel Martinez, Maine Senator Susan Collins, Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton and other shipbuilding and Navy officials.

Mayport Sea Cadets Lend Helping Hand
Midshipman Nikki Louns-berry has earned Ensign bars. At a recent promotion ceremony, Mayport Sea Cadets Commanding Officer, Lt. Sue Lounsberry, fastened ensign shoulder boards on her daughter Nikki's uniform. Ensign Lounsberry came up through the sea cadet ranks twice, from E1-E6 in Navy League Cadets (11-13 year olds) and again in Sea Cadets (14 -17 year olds), followed by promotion to Midshipman and now Ensign.

International VBSS Teams Train On USS Simpson
Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) teams from Africa and Europe finished a week's worth of Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) training June 8 by conducting compliant boardings on USS Simpson (FFG 56) during Phoenix Express 2006.
