Farragut Joins Fleet

The Navy will commission the newest Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer Farragut on June 10 during a 10 a.m. ceremony at NS Mayport. [ More ]

Capt. Bill McQuilkin relieved Capt. Phil Davidson as commanding officer of the Mayport-based, guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG-64) on June 2.

Mayes New Commander Of HSL-44
Command of the Mayport-based Antisubmarine Light Helicopter Squadron Four Four 'Swamp Foxes' changed hands on June 1 when Cmdr. Gary Mayes relieved Cmdr. Douglas Cochrane. The ceremony was held at 10 a.m. inside the HSL-44 hanger bay at Naval Station Mayport.

Top Navy Official Makes First Visit To JFK
Secretary of the Navy Donald C. Winter paid a special visit to USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) June 2 as part of an extended tour of naval assets in the Southeast region. The visit marked the Secretary's first to the Mayport, Fla.-based aircraft carrier since being sworn into office Jan. 6.
