Roosevelt: New Memorial Placed At Base Park More than 350 men and women gathered at Mayport Memorial Park on Friday to erect a memorial in honor of USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB/CVA/CV 42) and in honor of those who served on the ship. [ More ] USS Carney Welcomes New Skipper Cmdr. Glenn Kuffel relieved Cmdr. Patrick Shea as commanding officer of USS Carney (DDG 64) during a ceremony held on board the ship May 15. Simpson Completes Neptune Warrior Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 in company with Norfolk-based USS Bainbridge (DDG 96), USS Laboon (DDG 58), USS Normandy (CG 60) and Mayport-based USS Simpson (FFG 56) completed the Neptune Warrior course in the North Atlantic, off the coast of Scotland on May 3. Mayport Remembers Stark Crew On May 17, 1987, the United States people and Naval Station Mayport suffered one of the darkest days of the decade after 37 Sailors aboard USS Stark (FFG 31) were killed in an unprovoked attack on the ship by Iraq.
