Mayport Celebrates Military Child

President Ronald Reagan declared April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month 24 years ago. In his proclamation he stated, "Prevention of abuse requires that neighborhoods and communities be attentive to the problems of families in their midst and be willing to help when help is needed. It requires the active concern of educational, medical, mental health, law enforcement, and social service professionals, and the efforts of volunteers and private citizens." [ More ]

USS Gettysburg Completes SUSTEX-I
USS Gettysburg (CG 64) returned to Naval Station Mayport on March 16 after a two-week Sustainment Exercise with the USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group. Gettysburg is in the midst of an intense training and qualification period in preparation for an upcoming deployment.

Carney Raise Spirits, Roof In Jamaica
The U.S. Ambassador to Jamaica, the Honorable Brenda LaGrange Johnson, visited a Montego Bay children's home last week to speak to U.S. Navy Sailors involved in a community relations project at the home. Thirty Sailors from USS Carney participated in a three-day project at the Blossom Gardens Children's Home where they cleaned, repainted the kitchen, and built a new wall that will eventually be part of a much-needed addition.
