Mayport Cats: Friend or Feral?
If a kitten is not exposed to human handling within the first 6 to 8 weeks of life, they become feral and can no longer be domesticated. A combination of free roaming pets and those abandoned when the owners are transferred have led to a population of about 300 plus feral cats on Naval Station Mayport. It is known that free roaming cats pose potential public health threats, as well as jeopardize threatened and endangered wildlife species.

HSL-46 Celebrates Hump Day, Shellback Ceremony
Members of HSL-46 Detachment Nine and the Sailors of USS Anzio (CG-68) have been looking forward to the halfway point of their deployment as part of the USS Eisenhower Strike Group for four months. "Hump Day" finally came on Jan. 28, as USS Anzio transited north between the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea.

McInerney Visits Panama
USS McInerney (FFG 8) visited Vasco Nunez de Balboa, Panama, Feb. 18 through 21, just in time for Carnivale, also known as Mardi Gras. McInerney was able to catch some of the Carnivale festivities, which includes lots of confetti, exuberant Panamanians and local customs ending on Tuesday, much like it is celebrated in New Orleans.
